June 24-27 Mark Twain
Great Lakes Chapter
Mark Twain Cave Campground
Reservation Information: Call Jeremiah or any of the other folks at Mark Twain Cave Campground at (800) 527-0304 or (573) 231-1000 to make reservations for this rally. Make sure to tell them you are with the Great Lakes Chapter of the American Coach Association, and you want one of the sites reserved for this rally. Jeremiah has reserved a block of 12 sites for us which are all together and are 50amp full hook-up back-in sites for this rally: however, we have until close of business on the 24th of May to fill them.
If we don’t fill the block of 12 by COB 24 May the unfilled sites will revert back to the park for general public use (first come, first serve). The park has a fair number of sites so if someone misses the cutoff date for this block of 12 together, they will still be able to get a reservation for the rally but will probably be spread around the park somewhere. The park can handle
additional sites for us if our block of 12 is totally filled; Jeremiah stated he would put the additional folks as close together as possible. If you want to arrive earlier or stay later past the rally, you must coordinate that when you make your reservations…you will receive the rally rate for the extra night’s stay.
Cost: The rally rate is $40.00 per night plus applicable taxes; the deposit required is the entire amount due for the stay at the time you make a reservation. This is roughly $130.35 +/- (includes taxes) for 3 nights, the park refund policy for cancellations is located on their webpage.
The Mark Twain Cave Campground address: 300 Cave Hollow Road, Hannibal, MO 63401. GPS Coordinates: Latitude N 39 degrees 41.377 Longitude W 91 degrees 19.937 Basic directions are drive to Hannibal then take the exit off I-72/36 East and West to Scenic Bypass Highway 79 South for 1 mile to Cave Hollow Road on your right. The web address for the park is:
Rally Fee: We may or may not have a GLC rally fee since it depends on whether we schedule a group outing that will cost the chapter some funds. Therefore, rally fee is TBD.
The campground is under new ownership, and they are investing a fair amount of money in improvements at this time. The park is a Good Sam Campground with gravel sites and roads which includes a new Camp Store, shower/bath house, laundromat, etc. There is a Winery on site which will be open during our rally. There are two cave complexes on the
property–Mark Twain Cave which is located at the Office/Camp Store and Cameron Cave which is about a 1/4 walk from the office. The sites we have reserved for our rally are all between 63ft and 83ft long and are easy to back into off the road with plenty of space for your tow car. There is a pavilion (Tom Sawyer Shelter) located directly across the road from our sites that we will be able to use during the rally.
Some additional things to do in the area are tour Rockcliffe Mansion which overlooks the Mississippi River and was built between 1898 and 1900 by Lumber Baron John J. Cruikshank, Jr. and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Mark Twain Riverboat is available to schedule 1-hour sightseeing or 2-hour dinner cruises on the Mississippi River while we are there. The Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum is located nearby in Hannibal as well as the Big River Train Town
& Museum (Toy Trains) and The Haunted House and Wax Museum. There is also Karlock’s Kars and Pop Culture Museum which has over 10,000 square feet of artifacts including some frame-off restorations of beautiful classic cars to one-of-a-kind American Muscle Cars…some notable items include Frank Sinatra memorabilia from the original Capitol Records Studio and a motorcycle that belonged to Steve McQueen. For those folks who want to purchase things that go bang there is a fireworks superstore nearby so you can get ready for the 4th of July weekend. There are several restaurants located in Hannibal that would probably have something good to eat for everyone.
Aug 7-11, 2022
Shipshewanna Campground South Park
Great Lakes Chapter
Rally Dates: Arrive Sunday, August 7 and depart Thursday morning, August 11, 2022 (4 nights). I chose these dates since just about everything (stores, restaurants, ice cream shops, etc.) is closed in Shipshewana on Sundays (it’s an Amish town) and the flea market is only open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Reservation Information: Call Tammy at Shipshewana Campground South Park at 260-768-4669 to make a reservation for this rally. Make sure and tell her that you are with the Great Lakes Chapter of the American Coach Association, and you want one of the sites reserved for this rally. The campground is holding a block of twelve (12) 50-amp full hook-up pull-thru sites for this rally. The campground has established a cutoff date of June 1, 2022, to get one of the GLC block sites. After that date, the unfilled sites will revert back to the campground for general public rental. If someone tries to make a reservation for this rally after June 1, it will be contingent on sites available to the general public (first come, first serve).
Cost: The rally rate is $47.00 per night plus applicable taxes; Tammy will get a credit card number to hold the reservation but won’t charge the credit card until the scheduled arrival date. Folks who want to arrive early or depart late must coordinate those dates when they make their reservations (they will receive the rally rate). The campgrounds cancellation policy is listed on their website.
Address: Shipshewana Campground South Park: 1105 South Van Buren Street (State Road 5), Shipshewana, IN 46565. Their web address is: https://shipshewanacampground.com
Additional Information: This is a campground that has historically been a GLC favorite. Good Sam currently rates this campground 7.5/9/8. The roads and sites are gravel, the pull-thru sites have grass between the sites which the dogs love. We will have free use of the North Pavilion (open roofed structure) to gather; if we want to use the enclosed South Pavilion, they will charge us a small fee which I would prefer not to pay (I prefer the free open-sided one).
Things to Do: Most GLC Members are very familiar with Shipshewana. However, if someone is not familiar with the area it’s primarily Amish with a gigantic flea market (open Tuesday & Wednesday), Amish restaurants, ice cream shops, bakeries, and some great stores for shopping. In addition, it’s near Elkhart (which is the home of the RV industry) and the RV/Motorhome Hall of Fame Museum is also nearby. Just to the north are two large RV salvage stores which you can get lost in. As a plus, we’re exploring having dinner in an Amish home once again…stay tuned! (look out, Mrs. Yoder, we’re baaaack..)
Rally Fee: We may or may not have a GLC Rally Fee, since it depends on whether we schedule a group event (example: pizza dinner or morning donuts, etc.) or outing that will cost the chapter some funds. Therefore, rally fee is TBD.

Join us in Montrose Colorado for this gold rush. Montrose is located in the South Central part of the state at the base of the San Juan Mountain range. The San Juan’s are considered by many, the most beautiful part of the state. At this time of year the aspen leaves are in full color, adding to the beaty and GOLD in the area. This rally is built to allow plenty of time for everyone to get out and see the sights that this part of Colorado has to offer. The area is known for it’s four wheel drive trails and high mountain passes. If you have a four wheel drive you can access several old mines and ghost towns.
Sight seeing opportunities for all; Ridgeway (location where John Wayne filmed True Grit), Ouray (Switzerland of America), Telluride (a Gold and Silver town), Silverton (another mining town), and Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Other activities include wineries, antique shops and museums.
