Greetings Southeast Members,
What an unusual time this is for our world; facing a pandemic that has many of us on lockdown, self-quarantined and/or self-distancing. Hopefully, you are all staying healthy and following the advice of your local health authorities. Who would have thought that hand sanitizer and toilet paper would become such a valuable commodity?
Our Spring rally scheduled for St. Augustine FL was cancelled due to health concerns for our members.
Our rally hosts John and Jill Schafer and Dick and Pat Lokar already had done lots of work on our behalf so when you see them be sure to thank them for their hard work on the “rally that never was”. We had to book St. Augustine two years in advance, but hopefully we can get back there again.
Our Fall rally is still on the books. It is scheduled for October 1 through 5, 2020 at Pine Mountain, GA. (PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN DATES FOR THIS RALLY.) Pine Mountain RV Resort is an hour south of Atlanta and about 30 minutes north of Columbus. There are many points of interest in the area. A few are: Callaway Gardens, Roosevelts’ Little White House, a National Civil War Naval Museum (entry fee), a National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center (donation) and a Wild Animal Safari just to mention a few. The little town of Pine Mountain is very quaint with small boutiques and some very nice restaurants. We stayed at the resort with our grandchildren over July 4th weekend and had a very nice time. The cost of the sites will depend on the number of attendees. Cost ranges from $50 to $65 per site. All sites are pull through. Currently Southeast has reserved 20 sites in the Corsican section which is very close to the Activity Center. An overall price for the rally has not yet been set and signup must occur online AND with the Pine Mountain RV Resort. (we need 15 members to reserve to be eligible for a discount; additionally, group members have 30 days to make a reservation with a 1-day deposit by June 1, 2020 (this date has been extended from April 30 due to the Corona Virus concerns). Many members have asked for a rally outside of Florida so let’s make this a successful one. To date, two couples have volunteered to help with the rally but are unwilling to be lead hosts. If you are willing to host this rally you already have 4 helpers. Please let me know if you are interested in hosting. Phone number for Pine Mountain RV Resort is 706-663-4329 or www.pinemountainrvresort.com and signup at www.southeastaca.net.
The Southeast Christmas rally is scheduled for December 3 through 7, 2020 at Creekside RV Resort in Punta Gorda FL. This will be our second rally at this resort. Rally rates at Creekside have increased for 2020. Coaches will be asked to choose their own site (perimeter, waterside, premium). For those who did not attend the Fall rally there, this is a new resort located just a quarter mile east of I-75 at exit 161 in the charming waterside town of Punta Gorda. Punta Gorda rests on Charlotte Harbor and is a gateway to the Gulf of Mexico. It is the home of many great restaurants, a new military museum an amazing muscle car museum and much more. Our hosts Jerry and Kay Venlett and Michael and Dorothy Strunk had planned to get together this week to work on events and pricing. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 had other ideas. Know that your hosts will get together as soon possible.
The Southeast will hold an “Eastern Rally” (we are awaiting approval by the ACA Board to designate this a “Regional rally”) January 6 through 17, 2021 at Lazydays and the Supershow. The first part of the rally will be held at Lazydays RV Campground January 6-12, 2021. This includes a gathering of alumni of what was the Happy Wanderers Chapter and the Southeast members. Those dates are January 6 though 9. Starting January 9, 2021, the traditional three nights at Lazydays will start. (We have reserved 65 sites at Lazydays). The last segment of the rally will be held at the Florida State Fairgrounds for the Florida Supershow and begin January 12 and ending January 17, 2021. To attend the January 6 – 12 part of the rally, call Lazydays RV Campground (800-905-6627 or 813-246-4777) to make your site reservations and any extra days should you plan to arrive early. Billing and refund policies have changed at Lazydays so be sure to ask about their new policies. The Florida Supershow part of the rally (January 12-17) is run by the Florida Recreational Vehicle Trade Association. Reservations must be made through the FRVTA. This process usually begins early October. Once this date is known, notice will be published and available at www.southeastaca.net.
We will join Disneyworld in its 50th Anniversary celebration at Fort Wilderness, FL February 1-5, 2021. This rally is more casual than most to allow lots of time for participants to attend the various parks and Disney activities. There will be social hours in the morning and afternoon. Should you choose not to attend any of the theme parks, there is still much to do at Ft. Wilderness. Expect site costs to be about $130 per night. Reservations may be made by calling Hilda Neal (302-598-8892), tell her you are with the Southeast Chapter of ACA. We have reserved 20 sites January 31- through February 15 should folks want to come early and/or stay late. This has become a very popular event.
A Spring Rally at Florida Grande in Webster, FL is currently in the planning stages. Belinda and Terry Moorefield and Sandy and Peter Gallup are working out the details. Current thinking is the rally will start on the Sunday following Easter and be a 4-day rally. (Easter Sunday in 2021 is April 4). For those who attended this rally in 2019 you will remember it was a great rally and everyone had a wonderful time. Continue to monitor www.southeastaca.net for more details.
This year is the 30th Anniversary of the American Coach Association. The association is celebrating with a National Rally in Marksville, LA at the Paragon Casino Resort beginning November 1, 2020 for 5 nights. The ACA will have exclusive use of the RV Resort, which has 200 spaces. Chapters are assured they will be parked together should you feel you were not with your chapter at the last rally. Be sure to look for further details throughout the magazine and in the ACA President’s letter. Registration forms are online here, or in the ACA magazine.
As always, the Southeast Chapter is open to members’ suggestions and recommendations on how to make our chapter more responsive to its’ members needs. Please contact me should you want to volunteer or offer suggestions or recommendations.
Please stay healthy and God bless,
Dorothy Strunk, President
